Three years after the US launch, Microsoft unveils its 'health organiser platform' in the UK

Microsoft launches HealthVault in the UK

Microsoft’s has launched its HealthVault service in the UK, providing organisations with a health monitoring framework.

The new Microsoft service is a combination of cloud-based storage linked to a developer API which provides a set of systems to assist organisations which routinely monitor end-user provided health data such as blood pressure and heart rate information.

Prior to coming into power, the Conservative Party had said that it would seek to dismantle the Labour government’s much criticised NHS infrastructure with a view to outsourcing to private solutions such as Microsoft’s HealthVault service.

It’s unclear whether HealthVault will gain significant inroads into national healthcare provision sectors but given the strength of the tool set and breadth of technical interface mechanisms provided, it seems likely that a number of private health firms will take advantage of Microsoft’s service.
