1,700 units are carrying an autorun worm, vendor says

Olympus camera infected with virus

First it was PCs, then Macs, then smartphones – now even digital cameras are not safe from malware, as electronics vendor Olympus has found.

According to security software specialist Sophos, the camera manufacturer’s Japanese website carries a warning that over a thousand of its Stylus Tough 6010 cameras contain a virus on their internal memory cards.

The autorun worm does not affect the camera itself but could infect Windows PCs, Sophos reports.

Not all units of that particular camera are affected; just 1,700 (sold in Japan) are carrying the worm and customers can check their serial number on the vendor’s website to find out whether theirs is safe.
