Apple has revealed the latest version of its iPhone operating system, which offers over 1,500 new application programming interfaces and over 100 new features.
These new additions include multitasking for third party apps, folders to organise and access apps, improved mail with a unified inbox, enhanced enterprise support with upgraded data protection, iBooks, and Apples new iAd mobile advertising platform.
The beta software and SDK’s are now available for developers, while the finished product is expected to be available as software update for consumers this summer.
“iPhone OS 4 is the fourth major release of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system,” said Steve Jobs at the launch. “We’re delivering over 100 new features, including multitasking, folders, a unified inbox, deeper Enterprise support, and an iPhone version of our iBooks reader and online iBookstore.”
