Analyst claims device should be ready in time for Christmas

Nokia ‘working on tablet PC’

Nokia is working on its own tablet to rival Apple’s iPad, which could be available this Autumn, according to analysts.

"Right now the supply chain (for a Nokia tablet) is being primed up for a fall release. It has to be on the shelf by September-October to meet demand for the holiday window," Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar told Reuters.

He added that the device would probably run Windows software, but other analysts told Reuters they believed it could also use Nokia and Intel’s joint software venture, the MeeGo operating system.

Tablets are not entirely new to Nokia – the firm released the N770 handheld internet device years ago, and the company’s recently Booklet 3G netbook last year shows it is looking beyond phones again.
