Devices bought earlier this month will still ship by official launch date, Apple insists

New iPad pre-orders delayed until mid-April

US customers who pre-order the iPad ahead of its official release will now have to wait longer than the 3 April launch date to receive the device.

Apple’s US online store is now showing a shipping date of 12 April for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, suggesting that the firm is struggling to keep up with demand for its new tablet computer.

Apple began taking online pre-orders on 12 March, after an analyst had already claimed there could be trouble with delays.

Orders placed earlier this month will still be shipped by 3 April, an Apple spokesman told Reuters.
