CeBIT 2010: 'Home Theater Kit' provides "wired-equivalent connectivity"

Netgear unveils new storage and networking offerings

Netgear has displayed several new products for home and business customers, including a multimedia kit and a storage device for SMBs.

The Wireless-N HD Home Theater Kit allows users to wirelessly play multiple smooth 1080p HD video and audio streams in various locations around the house. Composed of two adapters, one plugs into the existing router, and the second into any home theatre device with an ethernet port.

“Our High-Performance HD Home Theater Kit provides wired-equivalent connectivity and whole-home coverage using wireless,” said Som Pal Choudhury, Netgear’s director of product marketing for Core Networking Products. “The technology is way ahead of the competition. With its groundbreaking speed, range and reliability, it is like wi-fi on steroids.”

Also on show at CeBIT was the Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles, which delivers Wireless-N performance through the ethernet port of consumer electronics, and two new HomePlug products – the compact Powerline AV 500 Adapter Kit and the Powerline AV+ 500 Adapter Kit, which has an in-built filtered power socket.

In business storage, Netgear unveiled two new products for the SMB market – ReadyNAS 3100 and ReadyNAS 4200, both of which provide high-performance data storage along with integrated replication and backup options. The 3100 is a 1U four-bay rack-mountable storage platform that provides up to 8TB of storage, while the 4200 is a 2U 12-bay rack-mountable storage platform that provides up to 24TB and two redundant drives.
