DISTREE XXL: Arctic Cooling eyes home console market, Hannspree shows off monitor lines and Sony focuses on optical drives

IT trade hits Distree ? part 2

Arctic Cooling has shown how much it is branching from its core business of PC cooling devices by announcing a new console gaming range at Distree XXL.

The Arctic GCM is a handheld console aimed at four to ten year olds and comes preloaded with 80 games built in. It will retail at around €40, and will be available in around six or seven weeks, through EntaTech in the UK.

The 32-bit Arctic GC Pro console is more akin to the Nintendo Wii, plugging into the TV and utilising motion sensing controllers. It comes loaded with 48 games and, crucially, will also retail for €40, making it a significantly cheaper, if less well powered, rival in the home console market.

The vendor was also showcasing its mid-range earphone line, which was built using sound-reducing technology developed for its cooling range.

Hannspree had a 28-inch novelty Apple-shaped TV at the centre of its stand, spearheading a wide range of similar devices in various animal or fruit shapes. It was also pushing its range of photo frames, notebooks and monitors. As well as sponsoring Le Mans racing, this year the vendor is also looking to put its name behind the London and Berlin Fashion Weeks, and will be looking to some football sponsorship in the UK.

Elsewhere, Sony used the show to highlight a number of its recent optical drives, including the BD-5730S Blu-ray burner. A number of external and internal read and write capable devices were also on show.
