FreeAppaDay scheme launches next week

iPhone apps to be given away for free

A coalition of iPhone games firms has banded together for a new free iPhone apps initiative.

It’s called FreeAppaDay, and kicks off on 18th January. Every day, a previously premium app will be given away free for 24 hours.

The FreeAppaDay website will let users sign up to get notifications when their favourite genre of apps are features.

The initiative is the work of developers ICS Mobile and Blacksmith Games, mobile ad firm TapJoy, and Aurora Feint, which runs the OpenFeint iPhone social games platform.

According to MocoNews, the choice of which apps get featured will be "solely based on quality". It’s the latest example of iPhone developers banding together for co-marketing campaigns to drive discovery of their apps.
