Numerous IT businesses fight through the recession with impressive annual turnover growth

100 top tech firms listed in new study

The UK’s 100 fastest-growing private tech companies have been listed in a new league table.

Media distributors, IT consultants and resellers have poured into The Sunday Times’ 2009 Tech Track 100, with blossoming online retailer The Hut emerging at the top spot.

The league table ranks each company by their revenue growth across three fiscal years.

The Hut scored an impressive revenue growth figure of 188.77 per cent, while fifth place was given to the Bristol-based integrated circuits developer Phyworks.

Fibre optic network provider Geo Networks came in seventh with a three-year growth rate of 146.29 percent, as tenth spot went to the wireless broadband service provider The Cloud – a company which installs Wi-Fi services across Britain.

Numerous telecoms businesses and IT consultancy firms made the list, which you can view for yourself here.

Meanwhile, online game developer Jagex managed to jump into 22nd place after recording an annual turnover of £32.3 million for FY08/09.

Resellers AVM, Intrinsic Technology and Probrand also made a welcome return to the list, while hosting, storage and security reseller ControlCircle leapt into 36th place after aggressive sales growth that hit £6.1 million last year.

Despite the recession tightening its grip on the IT industry, those listed on the Tech Track 100 made an average sales growth of 69 per cent in the last three years. Over 80 per cent posted profit in their most recent year, and the whole list saw 45 new entrants.
