Company reports decrease of almost $20 million for Q2

Acer?s net profit drops 20%

Acer’s second quarter net profit dropped 20 per cent, though the firm retains its position as the third largest PC manufacturer.

Taiwan-based Acer said its net profit for the three months up to 30 June 2009 was NTD2.3 billion ($69.9 million), down from NTD2.93 billion ($89 million) in the same period last year.

Consolidated revenue fell five per cent to NTD119.1 billion ($3.6 billion) from NTD124.8 billion ($3.8 billion).

According to market analysts Gartner, Acer is the third largest PC manufacturer in the world – after Hewlett-Packard and Dell – with a 13.5 per cent market share. The company experienced growth of 34.2 per cent year-on-year, based on its worldwide PC shipment, and its 2008 revenue totalled $16.7 billion.
