MD Gerry O'Keefe claims SMEs are driving convergence between IT and telecoms channels

Micro-P: Unified comms key to resellers’ continued success

Micro-P believes that IT resellers and telecoms dealers must diversify if they are to thrive in the future.

Speaking to Mobile News, Micro-P’s managing director Gerry O’Keefe said that convergence was being driven by the changing expectations of SME customers and their desire to purchase a whole solution from one provider.

"To grow, IT resellers need to take on mobile and fixed line telephony," O’Keefe told the magazine. "That is the angle we are coming from because that is our heritage and our primary focus.

"Every SME business wants, as much as possible, a one-stop shop for their mobile tariff plan, their PBX, their networking and their hardware. For any reseller to succeed, they have got to broaden their product set."

O’Keefe was also keen to stress that the convergence of the two markets didn’t mean that distributors from the two channels are about to see partner theft. "In terms of mobile broadband and the acquisition of Portix, the motivation has never been to just take business of the mobile distributors; it is about growing the portfolio of our reseller base.

He added that the convergence is giving "us an opportunity to supply IT-related products into those other channels because the same thing goes for mobile dealers."
