Business survey sees numerous tech entries in the top 100 companies

Fortune 500 sees strong IT presence

The Fortune 500 listing has been released with eight IT firms occupying spots in the top 100, which were ranked by overall revenue.

Hewlett Packard was the sectors best performer at ninth place with revenues of over $188 billion and profits of $8.3 billion.

Dell was placed 33rd with revenues of $61.1 billion, while Microsoft came in at 35th with revenues of $60.4 billion.

At 56th and 57th were Best Buy and Cisco, while Intel, Ingram Micro and Apple came in at 61st, 67th and 71st respectively.

Overall, in terms of industry performance, Internet services and retail was the best performer, seeing revenue growth of 11.3 per cent, while IT services and computers were placed at 30th and 38th with revenue growth of 6.7 and 2.2 per cent respectively.

However, if organised by yearly profits, the only tech industry to make an appearance in the top 50 is the internet services and retail segment, which was ranked fourth, with yearly profit growth of 35.5 per cent.
