New 20 second charge laptop batteries developed

Scientists at MIT have developed a new type of lithium ion battery that they claim can charge or discharge over twenty times faster than current models.

According to Tech Radar, the new batteries, developed by Prof. Gerbrand Ceder, utilise a new type of surface structure that offers high energy densities with slow power rates, and has a slower rate of degradation.

“The ability to charge and discharge batteries in a matter of seconds rather than hours may open up new technological applications and induce lifestyle changes,” said Ceder.

The new technology could b on the market in as little as two years.
