Broadband Genie predicts the rise of pay-as-you-go internet

Prices of mobile broadband to increase

The price comparison website Broadband Genie has said that mobile broadband tariffs are likely to increase as the current business model is unsustainable.

It asserts that UK mobile broadband providers are likely to adopt a pay as you go approach, which may benefit casual users.

“Prices are currently low as companies fight for numbers in a growing market, but they realise the situation isn’t sustainable and will be looking to change packages and turn a profit in the near future,” said Broadband Genie’s editor Chris Marling.

“Raising prices for heavy users, who are typically early adopters to new technology, makes financial sense. This will leave more leeway in prices to attract those casual, mainstream users who may still need some convincing.”
