Intel has taken Nvidia to court to settle a dispute over a licensing agreement, with Intel claiming that the deal did not cover CPU’s with integrated memory controller, such as Nehalem or the Core i7.
The dispute was sparked when Intel refused to validate plans for an Nvidia chipset that coupled Intel’s Atom processor with a GeForce 9400 GPU.
“We are confident that our licence, as negotiated, applies,” said Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. “At the heart of this issue is that the CPU has run its course and the soul of the PC is shifting quickly to the GPU. This is clearly an attempt to stifle innovation to protect a decaying CPU business.”
