Apple has continued to dominate US consumer’s mindset, according to the latest report from ChangeWave Research, which measure intention to purchase various products over the next 90 days.
Of the consumers questioned by ChangeWave, 32 per cent said that they intended to buy an Apple Mac during the period, compared to 28 per cent for its nearest rival Dell. That was a two per cent rise in anticipated demand compared to July.
The demand for Apple Macs broke records set in July, for both laptop and desktop models.
Analysts at the firm said that the figure represented a crucial tipping point for Apple’s OS X operating system. "Apple’s reached the tipping point," said ChangeWave’s research director Paul Carton.
"Where the early adopters and the discretionary spenders were leading the charge, now as we go into the 30 per cent range [for planned purchases], the change to Apple looks permanent.
What we have in the end, actually we’re sort of there now, is that buying an Apple is as normal as buying a Dell or an HP [computer] in America."
