Publisher of market leader Norton keeps brand separate as it looks to capture elusive customers

Symantec buys PC Tools

Symantec has acquired rival PC Tools for an undisclosed sum in a deal that further strengthens the publisher of market leader Norton.

The deal will see PC Tools remain separate from the Norton brand, something that Symantec hopes will help it expand its reach to customers in emerging regions and those that have traditionally steered clear of Norton.

"We are excited to welcome PC Tools into the Symantec consumer family and believe the combination of our two companies will provide additional value and choice for consumers worldwide to better enable and protect their digital life," said Symantec’s group president of consumer products, Janice Chaffin.

"By adding PC Tools, we build on the market-leading success of Symantec’s consumer offerings and firmly position ourselves for continued incremental growth in a rapidly expanding market."
