USA: Teams up with Dell to test home installation and in store repair service

Wal-Mart trialling tech-support scheme

Details have emerged about Wal-Mart’s technical support trial, with the world’s largest retailer teaming up with Dell to trial ‘solution stations’ in 15 of its Dallas-area stores.

Wal-Mart’s desire to enter the technical support market first emerged last month, as reported by PC Retail, however, only now are exact details about the trial emerging.

The scheme will be managed by Dell, and will see the retailer providing its customers with support ranging from HDTV and home theatre installation right the way through to computer repair and wireless solutions.

The retailer has no plans to expand the trial yet and claimed that it is currently to "provide an opportunity for Wal-Mart to understand more about what our customers need and expect in home installation and technology services, within a specific market."

In a statement, a spokesperson for the retailer said: "We are pleased to have Dell join us in this venture pilot. These Solutions Stations will provide our Dallas-area customers with added services, repair and consultation so that they can reach the best solution and value for their home entertainment technology needs."
