Vendor set to ship camcorders based on Blu-ray codec in US this August

JVC announces AVCHD support

JVC has announced that it will be shipping an AVCHD format camcorder next month, making it the latest firm to support the Blu-ray compatible codec.

The firm’s flagship consumer camcorder range, Everio, would be the first to launch supporting the codec, with the first models – the 120GB GZ-HD40 and the 80GB GZ-HD30 – arriving in the US this August. There is currently no word on a UK release.

It joins the format’s original supporters Sony and Panasonic, who recently also new models that support the codec.
