Slip up on Microsoft website hints at date for release of next update

2009 to see next version of Office?

A posting on a Microsoft website has given the biggest hint as to when retailers and resellers can expect to see the next version of Office hit shelves.

The leak occurred on Monday, when the firm posted information on its newly revealed Office Sharepoint Server product along with a reference to Office SharePoint 2009. Microsoft has said that the next version of the Office suite would support the Open Office XML, but scant other details have been revealed.

Microsoft quickly removed the link with group product manager Lugo Fourrage saying: "I honestly have no idea how the next version of SharePoint will be named, I promise."
