Firm acquires assets and distribution operation of Chinese firm Cantechs

Ingram boosts Chinese presence

Distributor Ingram Micro is strengthening its position in China, buying up the distribution section and assets of Cantechs Group.

The firm is established in 20 cities across the country, and has partnerships with vendors IBM, Metrologic, Symbol, and Zebra. Its business will be incorporated into Ingram Micro’s Asia-Pacific operation, specialsing in AIDC/POS sales.

"This is a small, yet strategic acquisition that provides an excellent platform to expand AIDC/POS through China and other parts of Asia,” said Shailendra Gupta, president of Ingram Micro Asia-Pacific. “AIDC/POS is a segment with great opportunities in Asia, generating better margins than more common information technology products. By acquiring the Cantechs distribution unit, Ingram Micro is gaining a solid presence in this category within the large, growing Chinese market.”
