US retailer sees growth of 1.5 per cent but blames early Thanksgiving for preventing better results

Best Buy announces good December results

In stark contrast to DSGi, US retailer Best Buy has announced good December results in its post-Christmas trading update.

It announced that its comparable store sales rose 1.5 per cent, boosted by strong sales of video games and laptop computers.

The retailer said that it would have seen sales growth of three per cent during December had there not been an extra week in November after Thanksgiving.

However, sales of consumer electronics including televisions and other gadgets, which account for almost half of the retailers half of its revenue, fell 3.1 per cent.
