Aims to entice shoppers to use their local High Street rather than driving to out-of-town retailers

Shop local scheme launched

A campaign to stop shoppers from going to large out-of-town retailers and instead shop on their local High Street, has been launched by Friends of the Earth and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Both organisations have said that by shopping on the High Street, not only can customers not emit extra carbon dioxide, but also get a better quality of service and a wider choice of products.

"By shopping locally we can do our bit to cut carbon emissions, so that, even if we don’t have a white Christmas, there’s no reason why we can’t enjoy a green one," said FSB national chairman John Wright.
