$30 million deal sees peripherals specialist snap up 100 per cent of Saitek's shares

Mad Catz acquires Saitek

Third party accessories firm Mad Catz has acquired fellow PC peripherals outfit Saitek in a deal worth $30 million.

Saitek specialises in PC accessories, multimedia audio products, chess and intelligent games, and is one of the market leaders in the flight sim controller market. In its last financial year the outfit reported net sales of $43 million.

Mad Catz expects all of Saitek’s 120 employees in development, sales, marketing, distribution and finance to remain on board.

Mad Catz president and CEO Darren Richardson stated: "PC games peripherals is a category closely adjacent to our core console business and we are thrilled to be adding one of the world’s leading providers to the Mad Catz family.

"Saitek significantly enhances Mad Catz’ position as one of the world’s leading games peripherals companies and provides us an entrée into the businesses of PC mice, keyboards and speakers and electronic chess and intelligent games."

The deal comes only weeks after Mad Catz acquired fellow peripherals firm Joytech.
