Carmack says multi-core CPUs will be better than dedicated physics processors

Doom creator talks down PPUs

Video games veteran, John Carmark has said in an interview with Boot Daily that he feels dedicated physics processing units (PPUs) are surplus to requirements.

He said in the interview that he believes multi-core CPUs will be able to handle the mathematics of physics as well, if not better than a PPU.

Carmack, the developer behind Doom has always been vocally opposed to having a separate card for handling physics processing.
