Market analyst Samir Bhavnani, speaking to cnet news.com, revealed that Wal-Mart plans to sell the Dimension E521 in more than 3,000 retail locations in the United States.
"Finally, Dell has addressed one of its main problems by giving customers a chance to touch and feel its products," Bhavnani said. "Dell’s going to be touching a lot of people who weren’t necessarily looking to buy a PC."
The news comes as further confirmation that Dell intends to supplement its direct-only business model with what appears to be a snowballing channel offering.
He has already publicly admitted that direct "isn’t a religion" and that it’s time to "ramp up" its indirect sales operation. The decision to not just go indirect, but through the biggest mass merchandiser in the world is possibly the strongest statement of intent yet. It is also further proof of Dell’s plans to circumvent the distribution channel.
