Anthony Knee, owner of Keen computers and regular commentator in PC Retail magazine was proud to beat a number of internet giants in winning Best Consumer Host.
Speaking to PC Retail, Knee was initially overwhelmed. "Did that really happen? Of course it did! A lot of hard work though. We beat Tesco. Wow!"
Having composed himself, Knee explained why he thought his company was chosen over its much higher profile competitors. "The difference between expectation and delivery is huge," he said.
"Companies like mine can exceed customer expectations, but many big companies are bluffing. They create such huge expectations with their fluff and spin that the customer will almost always be disappointed. This award, like the Which? report on repairs, shows that once again that the indies are best."
The awards recognise excellence in the internet service provider market. They claim to be unique as they are awarded to people and organisations in the industry by their peers and reflect the broad nature of the service provider sector.
The Best Consumer Host category covers any company that offers a web hosting facility to consumers. Judging criteria include support, security, flexibility and value for money. Keen computers was also nominated for awards in the internet telephony, business host and streaming categories.
An ISPA spokesperson said, "As the demand for hosting grows, ISPs must be able to respond with the space consumers need and the flexibility to accommodate consumers’ hosting needs. The judges felt that Keen Computers was seriously addressing consumers’ hosting needs, offering a solid hosting package."
The ISP arm of distributor Enta Technologies – Entanet – was nominated in the consumer broadband, business broadband, business ISP, business email and internet telephony categories, but didn’t win any of them.
"I was so disappointed that Enta didn’t win anything," said Knee. "They have a really good product which your readers can resell. It goes well with what Keen Computers can provide. Indies can create their own broadband bundle for businesses. They can be a high quality ISP with no upfront cost for their local customers."
