The International Technology Channels Association held its first meeting of the founding members last week in Monte Carlo.

ITCA holds first summit

The new international body represents IT channels across Europe, India, the USA and Canada, and was set up as a ‘neutral forum for knowledge exchange and the initiation of international merchandising activities.’ Its board of directors includes ASCII Group CEO Alan Weinberger, industry analyst Bob Snyder, and CEO of the Professional Computing Association Keith Warburton.

Entry-level membership is free, otherwise distributors, vendors, resellers and service providers can pay for Premium or Platinum membership which provides extra services. The ITCA operates as a non-profit organisation under German law, and the founders stress it is neutral discussion forum – not a buying group .

“Vendors, media and service providers are already operating internationally,” said president of the ITCA Frank Garrelts. “It is now time to create an international platform for the whole of the ICT industry, a central forum and clearing house for ideas and co-operation. The founder members, themselves large national organisations represent in all nearly 6,000 resellers in 67 countries. Although recognising the needs of hundreds of thousands of solution providers world-wide ITCA will be not a trade purchasing cartel – we set great value that this organisation is seen as a neutral forum for knowledge exchange and the initiation of international merchandising activities. Therefore we anticipate that vendors, distributors, system builders and the reseller channel will wish to join ITCA. Media and service providers are also welcome.”
