According to a study from US market research firm Parks Associates, the number of home networks is set to double globally within the next five years.

Home networking set to double

The firm claims that the number of homes hooked up to data networks will grow from around 80 million at the end of 2005 to nearly 145 million by the end of 2010. Tricia Parks, CEO of Parks Associates, claims that standards will play a key role in driving this growth.

Meanwhile, network specialists have been quick to back up the findings. Devlo, the firm behind HomePlug, has announced that it will be discussing the rise in usage at the Connections Europe conference held in Berlin from November 14th to the 16th.

“HomePlug will play a major role as a technology for households of the future,” said Heiko Harbers, CEO of Devlo, in an announcement following the report. “It will be the backbone of home networking and is establishing itself as a powerful networking solution.”
