PC ownership in the UK had hit 70 per cent by 2007, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.
According to the ONS’ Social Trends report, released yesterday, ownership of home computers rose from 29 per cent in 1998 to 70 per cent in 2007.
The study also revealed a corresponding rise in the number of households connected to the internet. In the same period of time, household internet connections rose from just ten per cent to 61 per cent.
Mobile phones have also seen sharp rises in ownership. In 1998, just 20 per cent of the population had a mobile phone, though this rocketed after the introduction of pay-as-you-go to 78 per cent in 2007.
