Publisher Serif says persuading these stores to sell its packages is a 'challenge'

Software a big opportunity for craft shops

Craft retailers should see the benefits in stocking software alongside items such as knitting needles and glitter pens, a Serif exec has said.

Ellie Dyke, head of business development EMEA for software publisher Serif, told PCR: “You only have to look at the increase in crafting and scrapbooking magazines, and events like the recent International Craft and Hobby Fair in Birmingham, to know that the industry is booming at the moment.”

Craft-based activities have seen a surge in popularity during the recession, with retailer Hobbycraft reporting massive sales increases over the past year.

Serif has recently launched its Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 package, as well as various imaging programmes. “The challenge for Serif is to encourage the craft retailers to sell software alongside more traditional product lines,” Dyke added.
