Fresh off the back of its PCR Award win, Utopia Computers has been officially praised by Scottish Parliament.
The Kilmarnock-based system builder received a signed motion from Parliament to congratulate the company for claiming the Best System Builder award at this year’s ceremony. Signed by 12 MSPs from the Scottish National Party, the motion recognises Utopia’s achievement both this year and last.
The motion, submitted by Willie Coffey, MSP, reads: “That the Parliament congratulates Utopia Computers, based in Kilmarnock, on being named Best System Builder 2018 at the PCR Awards, which endeavour to recognise achievements in the UK’s PC and tech industry; notes that Utopia is a team of innovative engineers who build customisable computers; recognises that this is the second year in a row that Utopia has won this award and was the only Scottish company shortlisted this year, and, wishes everyone at Utopia future success.”

Announcing the news via twitter, managing director Craig Hume later told PCR that it was a huge honour to be recognised by his country.
“We never thought we’d be representing our country and it shows that we’re truly being noticed on the national stage,” Hume said. “Getting an endorsement from parliament makes us appreciate that we’re making a real impact on the industry, and to make Scotland proud at the same time is unreal.
“I’ll go as far as to say that we’re the only custom PC manufacturer in the world to receive a parliamentary motion from their country’s leaders and go down in the history books. The best part is that we’re being awarded for doing something we love, building the most custom, most powerful computers in the world.”
