MWC 2016: Drones with LTE, world’s lightest OLED smart glasses, Sony Xperia X

As this year’s Mobile World Congress show continues, we take a look at the latest announcements and news from the show.

Intel LTE drones
Intel and AT&T are collaborating to test and define airborne LTE requirements for drones. As part of the collaboration, they demonstrated a proof of concept showcasing an LTE-based real-time video stream from a UAV using the AT&T LTE network with Intel’s modem at MWC 2016.

Epson Moverio BT-300
Epson has announced the third generation of its Moverio smart glasses for Augmented Reality. On display at the Mobile World Congress and available in selected markets from later this year, the Moverio BT-300 features Epson’s own silicon-based OLED (organic light emitting diode) digital display technology, enabling the device to be the lightest see-through binocular smart glasses on the market, and setting the new standard for augmented reality smart eyewear. The Moverio BT-300 is approximately 20 per cent lighter than its predecessor, the BT-200.

Sony Xperia X smartphone
Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia X. The company said the Xperia X line “embodies Sony Mobile’s new brand vision through adding new layers of intelligent technology across popular and acclaimed Xperia features: camera, battery, and design”. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and will be available in the summer.

Samsung and Deutsche Telecom’s world’s first end-to-end 5G solution
Samsung Electronics and Deutsche Telekom showcased the world first end-to-end 5G demonstration at Mobile World Congress 2016. During the live demonstration, Samsung introduced its 60GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) small cell solution and handheld smartphones. The demonstration involved the use of two Samsung smartphones to track the precise movements of a robotic arm from two separate angles. The 4K UHD video contents were transmitted over the air without any delay by the Ultra High Mobile broadband (U-MBB) service using Samsung’s 60GHz radio access technology.

Sennheiser PRESENCE Bluetooth headsets
