Leeds-based Firstnet Solutions enters data centre arena in surprise expansion

Firstnet Solutions, the Leeds-based IT managed service provider, has opened its first data centre facility in the city on March 7, 2017. The company hopes it will allow it to dramatically increase its capacity and capability by adding colocation, cloud platforms and disaster recovery to its portfolio of services.

The facility is designed and built as a bespoke data centre and not a building conversion. Firstnet says that it boasts technical superiority over anything else that the area has been able to offer in the sector to date. The data centre is carrier agnostic with multiple redundant connections in common with other leading UK data centres, it also features multiple hardware failover, physical security and a low carbon footprint design.

The company is also simultaneously launching its own cloud solution, powered by Nutanix. This has been designed to deliver a cost-effective cloud solution to UK customers with a strong focus on SMEs, while simultanously maintaining enterprise level security and service.

Firstnet Solutions’ managing director, David Cusworth, explained the move: “The opportunity to expand and invest in this amazing building to create the city’s first certified Tier III facility was too good to miss. By bringing our expertise and experience to the table, our customers will now have access to the latest technology in managed services and a host of additional support, including office space with over 100 desks designed specifically for workplace recovery and relocation needs”.

The opening of the data centre will also enable us to offer vital disaster recovery services to businesses using data centres outside the area. We envisage that this data centre will create more than 100 new jobs, providing an important source of local employment.”

With an existing phase one 400 rack data hall and parallel redundant engineering infrastructure, including 24/7 security and technical support, the Firstnet Leeds data centre will offer a level of service and quality which, following its planned upgrade to Tier III, will not be found elsewhere in the region.
