Grand Theft Auto V has broken seven world records, despite the lack of a PC version of the open-world crime game.
As confirmed by Guinness World Records, the Rockstar game has claimed the following exhaustive list of titles:
- Best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours
- Best-selling videogame in 24 hours
- Fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion
- Fastest videogame to gross $1 billion
- Highest grossing videogame in 24 hours
- Highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours
- Most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame
The World Records blog says that the records come on the back of the 11.21 million copies of the game sold in 24 hours, which churned up $815.7 million (£511.83 million) in revenue. It took the game three days to reach $1 billion (£624.45 million).
The game’s popularity comes despite the absence of a PC version of the game, remaining exclusive to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
“I don’t think it’ll be console exclusive very long,” Chris R. Silva, Director of Marketing for Premium Notebooks at Intel, told PC Gamer, “[but] somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive.”
Silva went to say that despite dwindling sales of traditional computers, “the PC gaming ecosystem just continues to grow.”
“If you look at the amount of revenue that is generated by PC gaming it’s in the tens of billions of dollars each year,” he explained.
“It’s incredibly diverse and rich and that’s its greatest strength.”
