Distribution is moving with the times

The UK tech distribution landscape is drastically different to what it was a few years back.

Electronic software distribution, cloud services and managed print solutions are just three examples of how resellers are buying differently from their suppliers.

Disties are also going through some massive changes. Exertis acquired Computers Unlimited earlier this year and has just announced the opening of expanded offices in China.

Tech Data is continuing to place an increased focus on retail customers and is pushing its ESD download offering, while Entatech has undergone some major changes since Dave Stevinson came on board as MD earlier this year.

While the big are getting bigger, resellers’ opinions of their distribution partners haven’t changed much. Three quarters are happy with suppliers, and the major frustrations are still pricing and stock issues.

The tablet market has been on a bit of a decline for a while now, but with the iPad Pro, Amazon’s budget Fire tablet and Microsoft’s Surface 4, these could be just what the industry needs to give the tablet sector a shot in the arm Innovations at IFA also caught my eye in September.

Plus, there are loads of great industry events on the horizon. We had our PCR Women of the Year awards and networking event on October 16th, plus the unmissable PCR Boot Camp North conference and expo on November 18th. The first partners are on board for next year’s PCR Awards, so pop March 10th 2016 in your diary and we’ll see you there.

We’ve also revamped our regular Store of the Month feature to include etailers, to better reflect the variety of sellers in the market. If you’d like to be considered for a profile, get in touch here.
