CDNetworks warns companies not to let strong demand have a "detrimental effect" on their businesses

‘Cloud acceleration key to retailers and MMOs eyeing emerging markets’

Retailers and publishers of MMO PC games like World of Warcraft should consider using cloud acceleration services to cope with massive demand in emerging markets, says CDNetworks.

The company – set up in 2000 – has cloud infrastructure set up in China, Russia and other emerging markets to help companies’ websites, apps, games and other online services load quicker in regions outside their base of operations.

It currently works with Tesco, River Island, Talking Friends app developer Outfit 7, MMO game publishers, Samsung and Sony (for music services), Right Move and more.

Gautam Rishi, Director of Sales, EMEA at CDNetworks, told PCR: "A web page that takes longer than three seconds to load has a 40 per cent user abandonment rate.

"It can take 20 to 30 seconds to load a UK website from China due to firewalls and some users having slow internet connections. We can take this down to three seconds – it’s very useful to those who want to speed up their website or are looking at international expansion.

"If you have massive capacity issues and your website can’t take the demand, this could have a detrimental effect on your business."

CDNetworks charges ‘per data’ for companies, but says the service "usually pays for itself in weeks" as it reduces bandwidth costs.

"We have SLAs to guarantee services will always be online and we have never had any security issues," Rishi added, when asked about the risk of hacks.
