Fastest ever selling Apple OS

Apple OS X Lion first day: one million sold

Apple announced that the firm’s Mac OS X Lion operating system was bought and downloaded more than a million times in the first day of availability.

Apple said that Lion was the fastest selling OS release in the firm’s history. The US$29.99 OS update was also the first update to be made available via the digital Mac App Store.

"Lion is off to a great start, user reviews and industry reaction have been fantastic," said Apple marketing boss Philip Schiller.

Apple says that Lion introduces more than 250 new features to the Mac including Multi-Touch gestures and the Mission Control feature which the first describes as an "innovative view of everything running on your Mac."

Schiller called Lion a "huge step forward" and the "best OS we’ve ever made." The Mac App Store, formerly a download for OS X Snow Leopard, is now built-in OS X Lion.
