Users of older versions of Microsoft’s Zune MP3 player found that the device froze up on the last day of 2008, as the software had not anticipated the extra day brought in by the leap year.Microsoft’s support forums were flooded on December 31st as users sought a solution to the problem, which was triggered when they tried to synchronise the device on New Years Eve.
They were assured that the device would work again on January 1st, once it had been fully charged after the power had been drained. However, it is unclear whether the issue is permanently fixed or the issue will occur every leap year.
The glitch only hit the first generation of Zune players, released from mid-November 2006.
