Worldwide PC shipments totalled 68.5 million units in the third quarter of 2007, a 14.4 per cent increase, according to the latest figures from Gartner.EMEA and Asia Pacific were the best performing regions with both accounting for the majority of the surge. EMEA itself saw a rise of 16.4 per cent year-on-year, with the figure for total PCs shipped reaching 22.1 million units in the third quarter.
Both Gartner and IDC noted that demand for laptops was the key driver of demand, with both Acer and HP leading the way.
The news comes as Acer announced that it has moved into third place in terms of shipped units thanks in part to its performance in EMEA, as well as its recent acquisitions of Gateway and Packard Bell.
