Global sales of PCs in the first quarter of 2007 were up nine per cent compared to the same period last year, with 62.7 million machines being sold worldwide in the period, a study from analyst Garter Inc has claimed.
The report also pegs Dell as the number one worldwide PC supplier, despite a drop in shipments of 7.8 per cent compared to 2006. Hewlett Packard was ranked number two following a massive shipment rise of 28.7 per cent.
"HP was helped by the Vista operating system consumer launch in the mature regions, and it is benefiting from a strong position in the channel,” Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa stated. “The first quarter of 2007 was a transitional quarter for Dell as the company began a major restructuring project."
