Worldwide workstation sales reached approximately 1.02 million in Q3.
This was a 4.7 per cent gain over the same quarter a year ago, along with a 2.8 per cent quarterly decline over Q2 2014.
The workstation market reached its second-highest volume total in Q3 2014, according to Jon Peddie Research.
Alex Herrera, senior analyst at Jon Peddie Research, said: "The third quarter marked the official launch of Intel’s Haswell-E processor and supporting Grantley platform, an event that triggered refreshes of every major OEM’s premium deskside workstation line.
“But shipments of those new models didn’t ramp until Q4, meaning that any subsequent volume surge would be reflected not in last quarter’s results, but next quarter’s."
Lenovo saw a 13.7 per cent unit share during the second quarter, while HP and Dell had a unit share of 40.7 per cent and 34 per cent, respectively.
In other news, the graphics market shipped approximately 1.28 million workstation-caliber GPUs in Q3 2014.
The market has delivered the second-highest volume total on record, so says Jon Peddie Research.
