The supremely popular blogging platform WordPress has been updated to version 3.3 "Sonny" which includes new features such as a drag-and-drop uploader.
The web content management system WordPress began way back in 2003 and was well placed to pick up the boom in bloggers wanting to host their own site on their own domain and customise their blog more comprehensively than the various blogging services allow.
To give some indication of the popularity, since version 3.0 was released, WordPress has seen over 65 million downloads. With version 3.3 the open source project has gained "significant polish around the new user experience, navigation, uploading, and imports," they said.
"We’ve also been thinking a ton about what the WordPress experience is like for people completely new to the software," said WordPress representative Matt Mullenweg.
"Version 3.3 has significant improvements there with pointer tips for new features included in each update, a friendly welcome message for first-time users, and revamped help tabs throughout the interface."
Another common theme of recent updates is the extensive support for viewing on mobile devices including accessing the dashboard via tablets and so on.
Existing users will either find the software updates automatically on their hosting provider or they can do it manually via the dashboard. Those interested in taking a look should check out the WordPress web site which has helpful information on finding hosting providers with WordPress as standard.
