Retail chain Woolworths could be set to make a return to the high street after it was revealed the store is seeking potential franchisees.
According to The Times, the retailer, owned by business tycoons the Barclay brothers, is open to approaches from franchisees but is not considering managing the stores itself.
The pair bought the Woolworths name from administrators and resurrected the store online earlier this year.
Chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said: “In the new year, we will consider approaches from interested third parties. We believe it could be a successful chain of up to 200 stores, supported by the buying power of the Shop Direct Group.”
The Barclay brothers' Shop Direct, which paid £7 million in February for the Woolworths and Ladybird brand names, previously rejected an offer from former Woolworths commercial director Tony Page to licence the name.
