Wireless 'N' continues to gain market share

Matt Grainger
Wireless 'N' continues to gain market share Sales of wireless 'N' routers increased by seven per cent in France, Germany and the UK and now account for 27 per cent of the wireless router market, according to research by Context.

The average selling price of the 'N' routers dropped by €10 in August, with units now selling at €76 compared to €86 in July.

In contrast, the market share of wireless 'B' and 'G' routers dropped by seven points, as 'N' routers continue to penetrate the market.

"Context data shows that adoption of the emerging 802.11n protocol has been particularly strong in August, both for the 802.11 b/g/n and the 802.11 a/b/g/n," said Context's senior analyst for the storage and networking markets, Alexandre Mesguich.

"This was also fuelled by a marked downward price trend in distribution sales."
