Microsoft has posted a hotfix update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 to improve performance on AMD's new Bulldozer processors.
"Currently, the performance of AMD Bulldozer CPUs is slower than expected," Microsoft said on the hotfix page, adding that the slow-down is due to a lack of optimisation in the threading logic of Windows 7.
The issue appears to have been on AMD's radar for some time since the company earlier in the year talked up how the task scheduler in Windows 8 would deliver performance improvements from 2 to 10 per cent.
It's not clear if the Windows 7 hotfix will essentially deliver the same improvements as Windows 8. It's not just highly threaded environments either, AMD illustrated the performance difference back then by using a number of popular PC games.
Any performance boost will be good news for AMD's new processor architecture which has so far failed to gain much in the way of acclaim when making its debut with the FX-8150 processor.
