Attendees at this year’s Professional Developer Conference received an indication of Microsoft’s timetable for the release of its next operating system, Windows 8.
According to a slide published online by the Microsoft Kitchen blog, the next major release is timed for 2012 and is codenamed ‘Windows 8.’
Although it seems unusual for the next release to already be in the pipeline, the schedule seems to fit closer with Microsoft’s timeline for bringing out a new OS every three or four years. Vista, which was released five years after XP hit the market, was the sole exception to this pattern.
