Enthusiast benchmarking site TestFreaks has posted a performance analysis of the recently released Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
"I've taken quite a bit of time to run many test on three separate computers with Windows 7 installed, both 32bit and 64bit versions," wrote Kristofer Brozio on the TestFreaks Blog.
Benchmarking the new Windows 7 update on three different systems including a a high end PC with ATI 4890 video card, HTPC with an Nvidia GTX260 and an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook, Brozio said that not all tests were run on all systems such as running games on the gaming spec PCs.
Using a number of computational benchmarks such as the x264 video encoder, Cinebench 3D and SiSoft Sandra arithmetic and multimedia benchmarks, Brozio said: "We see a slight drop in performance after installing SP1 for two out of the three tests."
However the absolute levels of performance drop were generally very small. Interesting the Cinebench 11.5 OpenGL benchmark increased from 50 to 57 frames per second.
Most gaming benchmarks did not change at all although Far Cry 2 performance too a dive. "Quite a drop here in performance after installing SP1, it’s just amazing actually, but still very much playable," said Brozio.
Brozio said that for the most part the before and after Service Pack 1 tests averaged out.
"You ’d probably not notice the difference in real world performance."
