Microsoft’s latest version of Windows has entered its developer test phase, and will be available for public testing from May 5th.
The new version, called Windows 7, is built on the Vista architecture but promises improved usability, simplified security measures, broader compatibility and a wider range of applications.
The release of Vista saw a highly negative public reaction, which Microsoft is hoping to avoid this time around. To do so, the updated OS will be subject to a longer testing phase than previously, with Microsoft saying that it will not be released until it is ready.
“Listening to our partners and customers has been fundamental to the development of Windows 7,” said Microsoft’s senior vice president for Windows, Bill Veghte
“We heard them and worked hard to deliver the highest quality release candidate in the history of Windows. We have more partner support than we’ve ever had for an RC and are pleased to say that the Windows 7 RC has hit the quality and compatibility bar for enterprises to start putting it through its paces and testing in earnest.”
