UK distributor Widget has pledged that it won't be taking paper to this year's Channel Expo event as it seeks cut down on the waste trade shows typically cause, with it hoping that the tech-savvy event will prove to be the perfect test bed for this new initative. The firm will be using touch-screen pods that will allow visitors to download all the information Widget would traditionally have given out in paper form. The firm is hoping that it will be able to cut down on its paper use for the entire year by 40 per cent by not having paper at the event.
Speaking about the move, Widget's marketing director Mathew Jones said: "Making sure that we've got enough literature with us unavoidably leads to over-production, which means boxes of paper that never get used and need lugging around.
"Going electronic means that we produce no paper and our visitors need carry nothing more than a USB stock, and even that's optional. On top of that, Widget gets to know which literature is most popular and visitors get information in a format that they can actually use, like a business card to slot straight into Outlook," he added.
Should the trial prove successful, the firm is hoping to roll out its paperless exhibiting initiative to all the shows that it visits.
